As part of the NORHED II project , ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ and the hosted a PhD-level course on Gender, Peace and Conflict, from May 27 to 29.
The course is organized on a semi-regular basis and is led by the Director of the ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ Centre on Gender, Peace and Security and Senior Researcher Torunn L. Tryggestad (ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ), Senior Researcher Louise Olsson (ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ), and Research Professor Inger Skjelsbæk (ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ).
The course presented theories and approaches to the of study of the gendered dimensions of peace and conflict, with a particular focus on the gendered aspects of all the phases of conflict cycles (before, during, and after) – from conflict risk to conflict prevention and resolution. The course addressed thematic issues such as international normative frameworks on women, peace and security, sexual violence in armed conflict and children born of war, masculinities and participation in violence, conflict mediation and peace agreements, international peace operations and transitional justice. It offered participants the opportunity to engage in discussions with both scholars and Norwegian practitioners working directly with issues related to peace and conflict.
Course lecturers included Former Doctoral Researcher Dr. Bintu Zahara Sakor, Research Professor Siri Aas Rustad (ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ), Professor (Department of War Studies, Swedish Defence University), Professor (Department of Government, University of Essex), Professor (Department of Political Science, University in Oslo), Senior Researcher Helga Malmin Binningsbø (ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ), Special Advisor Lynn P. Nygaard (ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ), and Major General (retd) Kristin Lund.
The NORHED II project allowed ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ to host students from Universidad de los Andes (Colombia), Makerere University (Uganda), Birzeit University (Palestine), and Mekelle University (Ethiopia), alongside students from other international universities.
