This report provides an overview of GreeceÂ’s role as a front-line state responsible for receiving, screening, and determining protection needs while guarding the EUÂ’s external borders. GreeceÂ’s migration policy has prioritized border management and asylum system improvements, with an emphasis on deterrence over legal migration pathways. Despite substantial EU funding, significant challenges persist in the reception and integration of asylum seekers and recognized refugees.
