Building on the Centre鈥檚 long-term work on the Muslim community in Cyprus, PCC engages in research of issues related to coexistence and religion, as well as new and minority religions on the island, many of which are linked to migration. The UN stresses the need to recognize the complex nature of religion in Cyprus today, which extends beyond a simplistic 鈥渂icommunalism鈥� that considers only the Greek Orthodox Church and Islam as key actors in peacebuilding. This project assumes that any interfaith dialogue efforts must consider the other indigenous religious communities on the island, migrant communities that have brought their own beliefs, and, in the island鈥檚 north, the large secular segment of Turkish Cypriot society that opposes public expressions of faith.
